Road Kill Chair

She wasn't always this pretty.....

Several months ago I spied this poor chair on the curb when some neighbors moved out. I slammed on the brakes and threw it in the back of the truck. It moved into the basement where it got covered in other junk. While looking for garden tools I rediscovered it and decided it was time for a make-over. At the time I thought that one of the kids could use it in a future apartment or I could sell it at our upcoming neighborhood yard sale.

There were 3 layers of fabric under the leopard and 1 million staples!!! I sanded it down and put on some primer.

The cute curvy details now show up. I had to decide on a paint color...ivory, white, or black? Since I did not have a place for it in mind I decided to look in my fabric stash first. I found a remnant purchased at a thrift store big enough, so the chair would be black.

And guess what...it ended up in my parlor where it was meant to go all along!!! There were a few hiccups in the redo- When I took off all the old fabric and put on one layer of new - the back did not fit so well. I has to take it apart and add some cording. Of course that made it too tight so I had to use brute force to get it back together! Then it needed cording around the seat as well and I was almost out of fabric.. I pieced enough to make it around!

So for $4.50 in black spray paint and a $1.97 fabric remnant - I have a new chair! Now that is a thrifty treasure! I will be linking up to Thrifty Thursday at Leigh's place Bloggeritaville and Rhonda's Treasure Hunt!

Quick Beach Trip

We had a quick beach trip last week- the Hubby had a conference and the Boy and I went along to play!

We stayed at this brand new Hampton Inn in Orange Beach. They had great breakfast every morning. We ate at the conference one night, the Gulf Shores Steamer and Lulu's. We didn't worry about lunches because we ate so much at the other meals.

We did some bird watching, beach walking, crab hunting, shopping but most of our time was just floating in the waves.

It has been a few years since we did a beach photo shoot, so they went along with me!

The boy has gotten old!

He likes being taller than me!

At Lulu's there is this great climbing thing! I had on a dress so I couldn't do it- but I will next time!

Three days was just not enough time!

Coming Home!

Last year at this time we were sending Son #3 off to Iraq. Today we got to welcome him home!

... I've been telling everyone that he would be home for my Birthday! And everyone told me not to count on it...but I did...and I was right!!!

Revisiting ETSY

A few years ago I tried a few handmade items on ETSY to see how it works. I quickly found out that my schedule did not leave room to keep up with producing enough to make it worthwhile. I really would like to try again now that I understand more about online sales...Plus I have a partner now that the Hubby does a lot of the work -shipping- posting and even buying. ETSY is more in line with my loves -thrifty, handmade, vintage- so I am giving it another try. I would like to get into some handmade products, but at first I am starting with vintage items and supplies from my stash.

Vintage rick rack is softer than todays. I have always bought these at estate sales.

Colors from the 50's and 60's are now popular again! Love this aqua!

I discovered that in the 60's I would have been a size 14 according to the pattern measurements! The last dress I bought was a size 2. I am ashamed to say that I have not made a dress in several years (about 10) ....Some of the vintage patterns I have are cute. I may try one!

Found these cuties at an estate sale today. I'm not "in" to owls but the owls we have found have all sold on ebay- so someone is!

I do like vintage pottery! And I do like when it does not sell quickly- I get to enjoy it while it is waiting for a new home!

My goal is to list 4 or 5 items a day to fill up my store. Please stop by from time to time! Thanks!

Thrifty Thursday

What could be thriftier that shopping at your Mom's house and bringing home some of her treasures? Mom has always loved junk and antiques. She has also always taken good care of her things, so most of her treasure is in great shape...even the stuff rescued from her basement is good!

This new mantlescape has several of her treasures that have moved into our house!

The big tray was a wedding gift in 1951. The English tin was in the basement, a souvenir from the Royal Coronation in 1953. I was a souvenir from England as well- Dad was stationed there in the Air Force!

When I was growing up Mom always lined a window sill with brightly colored goblets.

These are newer thrift store finds, an English tin bank with a Bobby and a tiny bird house.

I lined the bottom of the cage with a piece of the want ads.

This week we got a package from Great Britain! One our ebay buyers was faced with a high postage bill on a purchase so the Hubby made a deal with him- he paid a portion of the postage if the buyer would send me a souvenir from the Royal Wedding. He sent some flags, a calendar and my favorite- Will and Kate tea bags!

Happy Thrifting! I am linking up with Thrifty Thursday with Leigh at Bloggeritaville.

I Am Not Attached...well, maybe a little!!!!

For many years I have flown solo on my "junking" expeditions, or gone with other women who had their own homes in mind when making a purchase. I picked out the treasure I wanted and it was all mine. Now that we are deep into the ebay experiment my mindset had to change. I can no longer become attached to my treasure.....I still stand by the rule that "if it does not sell...it was meant to be mine." This week we found a great painted metal tray at a church rummage sale.It is quite comfortable on the parlor table...unless it sells!

I am also not attached to this sweet paint by number...
I took it apart to clean the glass and was surprised to find it was painted on a thin canvas fabric. The paint by numbers that I remember were all on a canvas board. Does this mean it is older than I can remember? I am curious, it is not dated...Does anyone have a guess?

And another mystery- the bottom of this sweet tea pot says Franciscan , made in Portugal. It looks like Desert Rose ...but not like the tea pot that is shown with Desert Rose...which is not made in Portugal...Is it a knock off?

It sure is cute! I think I am safe with this on ebay because that is one pattern I have never collected...but there is always that first piece that starts a new obsession.....I am not attached....I am not attached...I am not attached.....

Movie Night

One guess what movie we are going to see tonight????

Between our Disney love and Pirate love....tonight is a much anticipated movie night!!!
I looted the house to set the mood. From the Pirate Bar to the Ebay stash...nothing was safe! I piled the bootie in the middle of the table.
Each place has a little treasure chest - left over from the Boy's 4th Birthday Pirate Party!

Got out some classy dinnerware....

Raided the costume jewelry/craft stash...

The kids will not even notice much....but, I can't wait to see the look on the Hubby's face when he sees this tablescape!

Someone is pouting - he feels left out!!! Maybe I can find a costume for him!
