Happy Thanksgiving!

Our Thanksgiving started out with a quick trip to Atlanta to pick up our favorite soldier, straight off the plane from Iraq.

After getting to spend a couple days with him we had a non-traditional Thanksgiving meal. We will have all of the children on Sunday, along with my Hubby's Mom, her husband and brother. So we had a picnic meal today. NO STRESS! It was one of my favorite Thanksgiving meal ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Food on sawhorses, paper plates
Setting up to fry a turkey- Alton Brown style!

After a turkey frying fail several years ago we gave up! Since the crowd would be small we decided to attempt it again. This time we researched Alton Brown"s method on Youtube. We followed his directions exactly with great results!

Here the small turkey is lowered with a pulley system that was on the video!

The observation chair are placed safely- several yards away- And yes -it was hot enough for youngest son to be shirtless!

Belly shots.... 6 months pregnant and 14 years post delivery!

Carving the bird...

Digesting..........

It was a simple meal -mostly prepared ahead of time- Turkey, Pioneer Woman's mashed potatoes, gravy, canned cranberry sauce, cheesecake, and pumpkin pie. I really got to enjoy it with my family instead of working!!!

Thrifty Thursday

When my Hubby and I were out yard saleing last weekend we found this poor, dirty, broken typewriter. I wanted it for the keys- to make charms. But, the $10 price was too much . They really just wanted to get rid of it so they said "How about $2?" so home it came!

I cleaned it up a little and will not be able to destroy it for parts now.....I love it!

$2 qualifies this for "Thrifty" decorating! I'll be linking up to Leigh's party!

Pheasants and Turkeys

I don't have many Thanksgiving decorations- I hardly have time to put them out before we start getting ready for Christmas and the Porch Tour. This year I just got out a few pheasants and some turkeys and left out some pumpkins from Halloween.

Thrifty Thursday - Junk Necklace

I have missed Thrifty Thursday for a while. I have not been very creative lately but going to the Country Living Fair in Atlanta got me back in gear! The jewelry there was not very thrifty but the ideas were free. So I took some ideas and ran with them! Here is ....

.... my found junk necklace. I bought 2 of the less expensive necklaces just for charms. Then I collected some other pieces at different booths. I finished it off with some of my own junk. I would add more if it wasn't getting a bit HEAVY!!!

Starting on the left you can see these "findings" - Scrabble tiles, locket, tasting spoon, old key, clock hands, prayer shield, clock gear and charm with the dictionary entry for "thrifty"

The other end has: typewriter key charm, ivory eagle(belonged to my Grandpa), bead, rabies tag from 1966(belonged to my first cat!)

I have had so many comments on it! Everytime I wear it people have noticed ....maybe because it makes so much noise when I walk!!!
