Finished Project

This is one of my favorite projects - ever- my bathroom! I wish I had before pictures, but that was before we entered the digital age. We gutted the old bathroom. The only things we saved were this wonderful old tub and the trim around the window and door. The floor was 3 layers of linoleum/vinyl with rotten wood underneath. Now I have white and cobalt tile. The tub was painted with pinkish wall paint. It got the full makeover and a new faucet. We replaced the bead board (rotten and so much paint that the grooves were filled in) and added
a picture shelf all the way around the room. We also moved the tub where the sink was to make room for a larger sink. We added a wall to make a "potty" chamber for privacy. The vanity was the dresser used in my nursery. It had been in my parents' basement for about 40 years storing tools. My clever and talented husband ran plumbing between the drawers and refinished it. He also built a built-in bookshelf for more storage. The ceiling even got a make over- with some crown moulding and dental trim. I feel like a princess in my bathroom. Again, DH did the hard work. I had the vision and I did make the window treatments!

HOME, SWEET HOME !

This is my first try at this blogging thing. I have been so inspired by the blogs that I have been reading that I thought the time has come for me to try it out. We are restoring a 1907 Victorian home in the Historic District of our town. Little by little our house is becoming our Dream Home....but, it's a lot of work and everything takes at least twice as long as we think it will. My husband is the handyman and I have the "visions!!!!" I hope that by posting our projects that I can be encouraged by the progress! Our current project is the front parlor. We started out with a few goals (new paint and refinishing the fireplace) but the project quickly grew. Here are a few
pictures of the current state of affairs! The ceiling was cracked plaster with water damage, covered with vintage popcorn. The mantle was covered in many coats of white paint with some nice burn marks from candles gone wild. The old fireplace tile had been replaced with white bathroom tile at some point. Can you say U-G-L-Y ?!? When we opened up the sealed fireplace we did find a scrap of the original tile and are now on the hunt for something similar. We also found newspapers from 1944 stuffed up the chimney !
Luckily much of the window trim is salvageable. The sheet rock is now going up, along with plenty of insulation!! The pocket doors have also been stripped of paint. I can't claim this is any of my work - this is my husband's hard work. I can handle painting, but he does the hard stuff! I am so proud of him! I will go back and show some of his finished work in the future.
